Shared Roads and Road Associations

A road association signs one contract with one contact person. We quote the shared road and each driveway off it as separate lines, so the association can split the cost however its members agree.

We open the road to the travelled width you stake in the fall and keep turnarounds clear, so a propane truck, a fire truck or an ambulance can get in and back out.

Is Your Road the Township's?

The Township Roads department lists setting service levels and conditions for assuming private roads among its jobs. If you are not sure whether your road is assumed, call Roads at (343) 947-5029 before the season starts.

We plow private roads and driveways only. Township roads and County roads belong to their own crews.

Cottages and Homes Left Empty for Winter

Aviva reported that cottage claims in Muskoka, Simcoe and the Kawarthas tripled after the 2025 winter, with roof collapses and ice dams among them. Many insurers also set rules for checking on a home left empty, so read your policy for the wording that applies to you.

A plowed lane and cleared door make the place look lived in and let a neighbour, a contractor or emergency crews reach it. After every visit you get a photo of the lane and the front of the house. We do not go inside.

What Affects the Price

The length and grade of the road, the number of homes on it, the turnarounds and whether the lane gets traffic all winter or sits idle set the price.

Each home's driveway can be priced under driveway snow plowing, and most associations put the road on a seasonal snow contract with sanding on the hills.
